LTStraipsnyje tiriamos XXI a. muzikos stilių sintezės tendencijos ir jas lydinčių sąvokų prasmės. Siekiama atskleisti šių procesų įtaką ir kylančius iššūkius praktikuojančiam atlikėjui. Aptariamai temai būdingos sąvokos nėra nusistovėjusios ir kartais muzikologų bei atlikėjų traktuojamos skirtingai. Analizuojant su gvildenama tema susijusią literatūrą, keliami uždaviniai tiksliau apsibrėžti sąvokas, pasiūlyti jų variantus. Nagrinėjant muzikinius pavyzdžius, pabrėžiama XXI a. multistilistinių kūrinių interpretavimo problematika iš atlikėjo perspektyvos. ENGlobalisation and the media have a significant influence on the merging and overlapping of different musical cultures. The increasing migration of people and the availability of media open opportunities for music creators to become acquainted with the musical traditions and different musical styles of various cultures. Crossover, hybrid music and other terms are frequently used in musicological discourse even though these are often understood differently. The synthesis of various musical styles as a compositional tool (polystylistics, intertextuality) was already being used in the second half of the 20th century. While those compositional techniques remain within the boundaries of academic music, jazz players see more and more opportunities to connect classical music with jazz. After reviewing the range of different concepts, we suggest using the term hybrid style when it comes to the fusion of two or more musical styles. In this way, we avoid the negative connotations of the concept of crossover, indicating the possible oversimplification of music. In the 21st century, new techniques of playing Western instruments are needed to perform music that combines the traditions of various cultures and musical styles (academic, jazz, pop, rock). This poses new challenges for the practicing performer: it is necessary to expand one’s field of interests, to be able to read multi-stylistic scores and to master new ways of expression with instruments.
