ENThe institution of elections in the independent Lithuanian state was formed on the basis of the need to create a parliament (Seimas) that would deal with the creation of the Lithuanian statehood. This article describes step by step the history of the formation of the institution of elections in the first Republic of Lithuania, the influencing factors, and assesses the democratic character of the elections. In the course of writing the article, Lithuanian legislative acts were used. Key words: Lithuania, Seimas of Lithuania, elections in Lithuania, history, election law. [From the publication]
