ENThe antiquities of the Amber Coast, the north-eastern outskirts of Barbaricum, have been under study in the south-eastern part of the Baltic, on the territory of the former province of East Prussia, since 1724. A wealth of artifacts on the history of material and spiritual culture of the Aesti, inhabitants of the Amber Coast in the Roman times, has been accumulated in the last two and a half centuries of the archaeological works. Due to its natural resources, this European region was known in many places of our continent, and the Aesti’s trade contacts linked them to the diverse peoples of the Barbaricum. However, the last century’s archaeological research in the south-eastern Baltic has focused on the study of local antiquities dated to the early Medieval period. The proposed article consolidates data on archaeological publications related to an earlier period - the era of the Roman influences. Keywords: historiography, archaeology, Amber Coast, Roman era.
