ENThe author of the article examines the changes of Lithuanian policy towards Jews based on documents from Le Centre des Archives Diplomatiques de la Courneuve. The author shows in which way the government sought to get support from the representatives of the national minorities during the initial stage of Lithuanian independence in order to strengthen its position in the struggle with Poland for the South-Eastern territories and for international recognition. Jews played a key role in this process because they had a significant percentage of Lithuanian cities. After the recognition of Lithuanian sovereignty by the leading powers, the importance of national minorities in the country's foreign policy declined, which is seen in the archival documents.
