ENA lot of papers examine the question of accession of the Baltic States to the Soviet Union, both in the domestic and in the world historiography. However, most of the Russian works devoted mainly to military, diplomatic and at general political components of the question. In this paper, the consideration taken of the situation on the initial stage of the Sovietization of Lithuania (until summer 1941) in the field of education and science. Having reviewed the decision taken by the structures of the CPSU(b) and the LCP(b), and of the respective Soviet and republican authorities in these areas. Directly explores the transformations in the field of symbols and emblems, national holidays, names of institutions, streets and other facilities in different areas, control over the press, mass-media and literature, in particular, the withdrawal of books from sale and libraries, changes in the archival business, the reorganization of cultural institutions and establishments.
