ENVėžininkai ancient settlement had been seen over in 1995. During the first visit the settlement area was freshly ploughed. Such sporadic finds as pottery sherds of nipped and plain surface fragments, fishing net weight, spindle and others were discovered. This led to the planning of the subsequent investigations of the settlement. On August 11, 2000 this ancient settlement was included into the Register under the number A1564. In 2001 the archaeological research of the settlement started. A test trench 2x5 m in size and 10 sq metres area was dug out in the central part of the Vėžininkai settlement. The surface in the settlement was checked with metal detector, but no archaeological finds were detected. Small pieces of clay plaster and pottery were found. The artefacts were of hand built and thrown (wheelturned) ceramics, while the latter were decorated with little waves. According to the hand-made ceramics, the artefacts can be dated approximately the middle and the second half of the 1st millennium. According to the thrown ceramics, the settlement was inhabited also at the beginning of the 2nd millennium. From June to July in 2003, an archaeological expedition according the Project of the Children Summer Camp took place. Two trenches were dug out in the settlement of Vėžininkai, but expected archaeological artefacts had been almost undiscovered were found. The pits nos 2, 4 and 8 were found to contain tiny fragments of sherds as well as small sherds of thrown pottery, indicating clear signs of flood brought material. More exact dating of the finds remains unclear. Judging according to the occasional finds, the settlement was not intensively populated. [From the publication p. 2728]
