ENThe article presents the self-taught museologist Adomas Petrauskas (1914–2004) from Uoginiai village, Kupiškis district. He was born on the 6th of October in 1914 in the village of Uoginiai and spent his whole life there. He studied at Uoginiai primary school, where he finished 4 grades. He helped his father with farm work. From the age of 13, he sang in Antašava church choir, participated in amateur art activities, and was interested in local history. His inclination for art and creativity is revealed, as well as his ability to be tough and not break down when faced with hardships. The first and most important and significant exhibits collected, his assistants and the places from which they were obtained are introduced. An attempt has been made to show how a villager founded and took care of a museum, even though he had not finished any museology studies. The quoted fragments of the letters of writer J. Baltušis, Lithuanian radio and television newsreader H. Paulauskas, journalist V. Jankauskas (now a book publisher), and A. Zolubas reveal their relationship with the museologist. A lot of attention is paid to Adomas, as a child of nature, who was able to see the motifs of fairy tales in his environment, household and exhibits, and create figurative stories about them. The Museum of Adomas Petrauskas opened its door to its first visitors in 1969. Since then, the museum’s founder, Adomas Petrauskas himself, would welcome visitors interested in his collected values at his homestead, and he would not only name each exhibit but also tell in his unique manner about it, detailing its purpose and even its history. In 1996, A. Petrauskas donated all his collected values and four buildings: Northeast Lithuanian house, a barn, a tower and a shed for agricultural implements to the municipality of Kupiškis district, which handed it over to Kupiškis museum (from 1998 to Kupiškis Ethnographic Museum).A. Petrauskas’ residential house and one barn remained for the museologist, although they also exhibit and store various items and household items, and exhibitions and events take place there. On the 21st of June in 2001, Adomas Petrauskas was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Kupiškis region for collected and donated exhibits and buildings. The activities of the Museum of Adomas Petrauskas, which is a division of Kupiškis Ethnographic Museum, and Uoginiai Crafts Centre are based on the promotion and publicity of exhibits, and the organization of educational events. In 2013, I. Bobinaitė investigated 86 religious pictures of mass production of the second half of the 19th century – the early 20th century, preserved in the museum, most of which were made in Germany, others in Lithuania. Prof. Dr. Gediminas Motuza reviewed the collection of boulders stored in the museum, which contains rocks mainly of magma – various types of granite, diorite, and gabbro. The tower is built on 4 huge boulders of granite and granodiorite. According to the documents, the museum has 7,339 exhibits (the main fund of the collection consists of 3,921 exhibits, the auxiliary fund – 3,418), they are divided into groups of writing, photography, art, household and ethnography, and nature. One of the main tasks of Uoginiai Crafts Centre is to coordinate the activities of traditional crafts. It also organizes various events: lectures, conferences, exhibitions, educational activities emphasizing the traditions of crafts and promoting the entrepreneurship of craftsmen. The museum and Uoginiai Crafts Centre, founded by A. Petrauskas, a learned person of Uoginiai village, are famous not only in Kupiškis region but also in Lithuania and abroad. [From the publication]
