ENThe article presents the development of the archaeological collection of M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art. The first exhibits were acquired in 1921, after the establishment of M. K. Čiurlionis Gallery. Archaeological finds entered the museum in various ways, some from Kaunas City Museum, the Institute of Design and Restoration of Monuments, others from archaeological research or private individuals, and others. There is no department dedicated to archaeology in the museum – most of the archaeological exhibits are stored in the Department of Applied Arts. The largest part of this collection consists of material from archaeological excavations in Kaunas Old Town, also a significant part of the finds are from other areas of Lithuania – Ukmergė Old Town, Raudonė and Panemunė castles, Jaučiakiai mounds, ancient settlements, etc. This collection consists of archaeological ceramics: household and architectural articles, also a small part of glass, sandstone, metal articles. All these archaeological finds are especially important for historical research, especially for the research of the development of Kaunas city and the way of life of the citizens. Archaeological exhibits were exhibited at the Museum of Ceramics, unfortunately, in 2016, after the museum closed, this exposition did not remain. At present, the exhibits of this collection – tiles, plates and Renaissance ceramic window sills – are exhibited in the permanent exposition “Lithuanian Art in the 14th–19th Centuries” at M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art. [From the publication]
